NPC's research programme
NPC produces high quality and independent research into the third sector for funders, charities, trusted advisors and government. Our reports are seen as required reading for anyone wanting to build their knowledge of social problems and the charity sector. Read here how we carry out our research, and see some examples of our funders.
NPC’s research programme focuses on six areas.

Improving the charity sector
Whether it is grassroots charities, or 'super-charities', time and time again we see the same issues holding charities back from focusing on their day to day work. The same is true of philanthropy. We don't only look to identify these barriers - we look to find solutions.

Charity analysis
NPC has been analysing charities for six years. As well as sharing NPC’s approach to analysis, as described in The little blue book, we also offer a charity analysis service and highlight examples of NPC’s analysis.

Well-being
NPC has developed a tool for organisations to demonstrate their impact on the well-being of young people aged 11 to 16. The tool provides organisations with a simple, reliable and academically-robust way of understanding the difference they make to young people’s lives.

Making the most of young people's potential
We explore ways in which problems can be tackled early on and young people can be helped to achieve their full potential. Our knowledge to date includes truancy and exclusion, young offenders, and child mental health.

Making communities stronger
Our research into 'Making communities stronger' started with our first report into domestic violence. Today, this arm of our research programme has extended to cover issues including homelessness, the criminal justice system, and financial exclusion.

Health and disability
The health and disability sector attracts over 30% of the voluntary income of the top 500 charities in the UK and contains some of the largest and most influential charities. Our knowledge in this area includes cancer, older people's health, autism, and disabled children and young people.

International giving and the environment
NPC has also carried out research into overseas giving. One of our reports gives an overview of international giving, while others focus specifically on giving in India.
We have also produced a report which provides an overview of environmental issues and philanthropy.
