Iona is one of NPC’s longest serving staff with extensive experience analysing charities and the charitable sector more widely. She has authored or managed ten of NPC’s research publications, on topics ranging from mental health to the environment, analysed over 50 charities, and helped to develop NPC’s research base and methodology over the past eight years. Iona increasingly uses her knowledge and experience to advise charities and funders on improving their effectiveness. She is a regular commentator on issues affecting the sector. She has a particular interest in health and disability, although this does not limit her ability to advise in other sectors.
Before joining NPC, Iona had a career in finance, including seven years with the Commonwealth Development Corporation (as it was then known) investing in projects from cardboard box manufacturers in Guyana to palm oil plantations in South East Asia. This included a three year stint in Uganda running a portfolio of loan and equity investments in small to medium-sized businesses. Prior to CDC she spent six years as a merchant banker.
